False Idols

Two days ago on Wednesday morning, a "Christian" prayer service was held in the Pentagon's auditorium during working hours in which Donald Trump was praised as a divinely appointed leader. This is according to multiple news outlets including the New York Times. The quotations on the word Christian are my quotations. I am a Christian. From what I understand of the service, it claimed to promote Jesus Christ as lord and savior. If you truly believe in God and in Jesus as lord and savior, you do not promote Christian nationalism or the presidency of Donald Trump. Sadly those folks are worshipping a false idol. There are many Christians like myself who can see this charade. But the reality is that Donald Trump has multiple people in his administration who appear to be Christian Nationalists. Between those people as well as the billionaires that carry out his unconstitutional and illegal policies, Trump wants to convert our democracy to his form of autocratic government.
The Pentagon has formally accepted the gift of a large Boeing plane from the country of Qatar to be modified to be used as Air Force One for Trump. Trump had announced this gift during his recent trip to the Middle East. The emoluments clause of the U.S. Constitution clearly prohibits gifts from foreign countries. I understand that during the term of President Bush, he was given a puppy by a foreign government and Congress forced him to give it back. Both episodes are clear examples of violating the Constitution. The current situation identifies that we are in the middle of a Constitutional crisis, because Congress (under control of current Republicans) is doing nothing to counter this unconstitutional act by Trump.
If you believe that your leader can do no wrong and is divinely appointed, you look the other way when that person does illegal or unconstitutional acts.
How many tragic events have occurred during the history of mankind that were said to be done for God, or in God's name?
I said in a previous blog that God expects us to use the brains that God has given us.
May the mass delusion by a significant part of our population be able to be countered by the good citizens of this country. May true Christians counter those who are worshipping this false idol. May members of other religions or those who are atheist or agnostic also be able to effectively protect our Constitution and our democracy.
